Agrasen Ki Baoli: Haunted Stepwell of Ghosts in Delhi

Agrasen Ki Baoli, Delhi

The Agrasen Ki Baoli is an ancient structure situated in the bustling hub of Delhi, India. It retains much of its grandiose character despite being heavily weathered from centuries of existence. 104 steps lead down various levels of the structure to the base of the well, which acted as a water source for Delhi residents for many years.

Ghosts of the Argrasen Ki Baoli

The now-empty Agrasen Ki Baoli is said to be home to demons, devils and especially ghosts! The most prevalent legend related to the well, however, is that of Black Water. It is told that the stepwell once held this black water that would entice people towards it. Legend has it that this evil water drew in many people to jump from the great heights of the well to their own deaths. Although this water has now dried up, the souls of those which it claimed are still said to linger within the stepwell, trapped for all eternity.

Many people have become quite superstitious of the Agrasen Ki Baoli, believing it to be a place where evil entities linger. Some have claimed to feel as though they are being followed when visiting the stepwell, despite there being no one around. People to experience this phenomenon are not able to shake the feeling while at the stepwell. This is true for them no matter where they stand or how fast they attempt to outrun the feeling.

Furthermore, people have experienced interesting issues with their hearing when descending into the deepest parts of the well. Apparently, countless people have claimed to hear disembodied voices when no one is around. Interestingly, many other claim to be at the opposite end of this spectrum hearing nothing, except an unnatural silence.

Visiting the Haunted Agrasen Ki Baoli Stepwell

The Agrasen Ki Baoli is an interesting piece of history and architecture that is important to Delhi. Visitors can enter the stepwell for free during the day and explore at their own leisure. Care should be taken while exploring as some areas of the structure are closed for instability and others, which remain open, could result in a fall from great heights if one’s footing isn’t carefully watched. I recommend staying right up until closing time and snapping photographs as the site is closed down for the day. This is the best way to get tourist-free photographs, given that this is a popular place within Delhi.
